The Interior Savings Fat Cat Children’s Festival is back for its 27th year of fun for those young, and young at heart.
Join us June 9th & 10th at Waterfront Park in Kelowna for a ton of family-friendly activities, including the much-loved Fat Cat Children’s Festival Parade. The parade kicks off at 10:00 am at Richter Street and Cawston Avenue on Saturday, June 10th. You’ll find all the details, including festival hours here.
The theme for this year’s Festival is Okanagan Stories. It’s a celebration of the rich history of the people and landscapes of this region and will provide some fun opportunities to learn more about the place we call home.
New this Year!
The Festival will close with an incredible 200 drummers and percussionists forming a giant drum circle that will celebrate a variety of cultural backgrounds through their unique rhythms.
“This has been a long-term vision, to have giant community drum circle at the Festival,” says artistic director Dorothee Birker. “The beat of drums is so elemental and we as humans all respond to them at our very core. It is quite magical to be an integral part of something that is yet so much bigger than us.”
If you’re interested in playing a role in the drum circle, the Festival is hosting a series of free drum workshops at the Rotary Centre for the Arts each Tuesday in May, Everyone is invited to come and learn about different drumming styles, and how to drum. You’ll find more details here.
While lots of fun, the Fat Cat Children’s Festival is also a wonderful learning environment for families, and the impact that it has on the community goes well beyond the two days of the Festival. Children and their families have the opportunity to explore and experience activities they might not have the opportunity to do otherwise. It also provides an opportunity for families to access resources and community supports all in one venue. The Festival is a great example of a community coming together to create a strong, supportive environment to help children flourish.
Here’s your opportunity to win one of two Interior Savings prize packs including a Fat Cat Children’s Festival family pass (approximate value of $100 each).
We’ve cooked up a contest that plays on the Festival’s theme of Okanagan Stories. Beginning May 25, go to our Facebook page for your chance to win. Good luck!
