It’s hard to go a day without spending hours looking at a screen. Through our phones, computers, and televisions we connect with friends and family, stay informed with current events, work, and are entertained. These all have a positive impact on our lives… when used in moderation. With our increase in screen time, it’s no shock that our children are also spending more time in front of screens and less time being active.

When it comes to overall physical activity only 35% of 5-17 year-olds are getting the recommended amount of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day according to a study led by the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance. Those that are not active are facing greater risk of physical, mental, social and cognitive health problems; all the things that can impact our children’s well-being and prevent them from growing into resilient, confident adults.

Interior Savings Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week is all about balance. The week is dedicated to helping families unplug and create healthy habits that will not only have everyone moving more, but also connecting as a family, and in the community. You’ll find various fun (and free!) events throughout the week to help inspire your family to take some time away from your devices.
