Last October, Christine McWillis, Executive Director of Project Literacy, logged onto Volinspire and immediately saw the story about Interior Savings’ $10,000 Local Give. She quickly went to the registration site, and as she was signing up, phoned board members and staff to let them know about the initiative. “It was exciting”, Christine shared. “As I was making the phone calls I could see the number of available registrations getting smaller and smaller. We were thrilled that six of us successfully registered and received $100 each.”
What did they do with the money?
With help from local bookstore, Mosaic Books, Project Literacy was able to make the most of the money by purchasing a number of books to help their program participants improve their skills in reading, writing, and math; books that can be used for years to come.
“We’re so pleased that with Interior Savings’ help we were able to support a local bookstore who in turn helped us leverage our dollars in the best way possible. This is such a wonderful example of community working together to make a difference”, said Fern Carr, Board President of Project Literacy.
In addition to adding to their library of resources, the team from Project Literacy wanted to recognize the hard work and dedication of their 125 volunteer tutors; each of whom donate on average an incredible 128 hours annually!
“From a supply of refreshments for tutoring sessions to door prizes for our annual potluck celebration, it was such a pleasure to recognize our volunteers who give selflessly of their time”, says Christine McWillis. “Thank you to Interior Savings for giving us the opportunity to say thank you with the $10,000 Local Give – it’s by far one of the greatest ideas I’ve seen in a long time!”
From all of us at Interior Savings, a big thank you to Christine, Fern, Shirley, Elaine, Dave and Bonnie for sharing your stories and helping us create a wave of local good!
