Mom, wife, Account Manager extraordinaire – whew! Someone get this woman a coffee stat (and make it a Grande Americano)!

Meet Melissa, an Account Manager at our Tranquille Branch in Kamloops. Melissa has been with Interior Savings for 12 years and has occupied a variety of roles in her time with us. Melissa’s colleagues describe her as extremely helpful, always smiling and able to graciously take-on any challenge that comes her way.

After a long day at her full-time job, you can find her putting in extra hours at her ‘part-time’ job -working as a taxi driver to her daughters as she shuttles them around town to their extra-curricular activities. When she finally manages to get some time off, you can find her geocaching, hiking and camping with her family.

With such future aspirations as paddling the Bowron Lakes circuit (just a casual 116 km chain of lakes, waterways and portages) and learning Spanish, something tells us we have an over-achiever on our hands.

We asked Melissa a few questions about her work with Interior Savings, and here’s what she had to say:

What do you like about working at Interior Savings?

I love working for a community focused organization. I am proud that we offer the best of both worlds, a full suite of smart financial products and services while keeping heart and a community focus at the forefront of all we do.

What causes/organizations are you passionate about?

Foundational literacy and supporting both the physical and mental well-being of our youth is a big part of what we do [at our branch] and something that I am personally passionate about. Our team has partnered with Kamloops Early Literacy and Language Initiative (KELLI) as well as the YMCA Healthy Kids Day for several years and I thoroughly enjoy volunteering at these events!

Why is supporting local so important?

Supporting local drives our economy and impacts the community as a whole.

Being an active community organization means giving back to the communities you serve and as employees of Interior Savings we’re individually given the opportunity to support those organizations we’re passionate about. Whether that’s empowering youth to pursue higher education, supporting organizations as they develop new and innovative ways to do business or showing up to provide real hands on work to improve the lives of others during our “Day of Difference”. We are a strong and empowered force within our community!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

“You’re already everything you need to be.”

Are you a spender or a saver?

That’s debatable! I’d like to say ‘saver’ but this girl can’t pass up a bargain!

What’s your biggest impulse buy or something you buy daily or weekly that is an indulgence?

I’m a total coffee nut – my “Grande Americano” is limited to only twice a week – BUT I LOVE IT!!!! (note, we did not add any of those exclamation marks).

Who would you nominate for the next feature and why?

Katrina Smith – she is a force to be reckoned with; passionate about her members and her colleagues and always willing to help them succeed.

Thank you Melissa for 12 years of serving your community through your work at Interior Savings!
